Pedro Pablo's work has always been intimate with a surreal atmosphere and over the years he has created a very personal style with a distinctive iconography. Mostly he used to depict his own world, a sort of alternative universe. Lately, his surrounding reality has become a source of inspiration and perhaps the trigger on his new series of works.
If we evaluate the art produced in Cuba in the last forty years inevitably we have to take into consideration the socio-political situation of the country. The Cuban reality is overwhelming in many senses, and artists are particularly vulnerable to it. Social conditions heavily influence their creative journey, so it is not a surprise that this reality would become the subject of various artists work. Pedro Pablo has been living and working in Cuba all his life, encircled by these conditions.
